Parents we cannot abdicate our role in helping our children prepare for romantic relationships. Believe it or not, your message is the most important one to them. And they need your actions to follow your words. Do not be afraid to set down ground rules early and to monitor and manage their social calendar – keeping them busy with social and fun activities yet protecting the very innocence that is such an important part of who they are. Your children need boundaries and morality. They need to be reminded in words and deeds that they are made in the image of God, that God’s design of marriage and the family has deep meaning and brings great joy. As you can see from the Study, these kids want and need the guidance of parents who love enough to set important boundaries and live up to them…who love enough to be there for their children and continue to hold them accountable, in love, to the morality God has clearly laid out. Parents, be courageous in the Lord and realize that there are more and more resources available to help you through this. It is not about expecting perfection. It is about trusting and taking on the duty that you are called to do as parents. We should not need a study to tell us this. We know it because it is written in our hearts – marriage and family are from God and we must live in accord with His laws to be happy.
