Is Venting Useful? Probably Not.

Venting is a good habit to avoid.

We love to vent and we are usually taught that it is good to vent.

From a religious perspective, to make venting a habit is to lack self-discipline when it comes to your emotions. It causes us to be hasty in our words which leads to things we regret saying. Venting all the time is like a little kid who constantly throws tantrums – you know, those ones on the floor. It’s a sign someone is out of control, lacking any self boundaries. It allows useless anger and fear to rise to the surface and dominate. Self-control is an essential characteristic of a good Christian. Did Peter learn this lesson the hard way right?

Tammy Lenski just did a great interview with a top social psychology researcher. He agrees that habitual venting hurts us.
